With the more than 4 decades that Moses served as Israel's leader, under the direct control of God Himself, plus the high priests Aaron and Eleazar sharing in Moses' responsibilities, we can see that there was already a leadership team in place. In addition, a council of 70 elders was appointed to assist in national affairs. There were also patriarchal leadership roles provided by the chiefs and leaders within each tribe. And, still, God knew in advance that His people would want a king. These laws set the framework for installing a king down the road. How amazing is our God?!
