Sometimes, especially in the Old Testament, we encounter things we don't understand or that bumps up against what our culture views as "right" or "wrong". It's important to understand the culture in which the Israelites lived and the pagan worship that was prevalent at that time which required the laws found in Exodus. I encourage you to find credible commentary to accompany your reading and to be heavily in prayer when you find yourself angry or confused about scripture. I also always bring myself back to Isaiah 55:8- “'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8 NIV This part of scripture was a huge source of my faith being stretched. I had to dig deep and wrestle with God's sovereignty. Was God really Sovereign and Just and Right, or was He only those things when He made sense to me? Continuing on...we're very close to finishing up Exodus! Jan 29 Reading: Exodus 25-28
Mid-week! Are you shaking your head yet at Pharoah's hardened heart? I {Mandy} love reading God's Word and listening to how He speaks to me through it. Let's continue on and keep digging in to Exodus... Jan 26 Reading: Exodus 15:22-18:27
Ladies, if you find yourself falling behind, please remember that the goal is to read and take in the Lord's Word. Catch up as you're able, but please don't stress. Jan 26 Reading: Exodus 13:17-15:21
Wow! The first four chapters of Exodus were already packed with so much! Let's move on to the next four chapters! Jan 23 Reading: Exodus 5-8
Ladies, we have officially finished the first book of the Bible in the BIY 2016 Plan! Woo hoo!!!! Cue the confetti! How does that feel? And on we move to the book of Exodus; a book that records the Israelites' wandering in the desert for 40 years. It's an amazing opportunity to watch the Israelites struggle to trust God, stay in line with His directives, and believe in His plan and the promises He made them. Does that sound familiar? I could replace any one of the straying, doubting Israelites in the book of Exodus. For every time I shook my head in disgust at their doubt and disobedience, I had to remind myself that I am no different. I doubt and disobey way more than I care to admit! So, without further adieu, here we go! Let's dive in to our second book of the Bible in chronological order...Exodus! Jan 22 Reading: Exodus Chapters 1-4
