I {Lindsey} have talked about victimization before on a personal level, but today I'm talking about it on a more broad, social level. So far, the first several days of this new year I've seen very little in my newsfeed regarding all the offenses of this world. It's my hope that as we delve further into the year 2016 that we, the women of faith, the crowned heirs of the Most High King, can make a point and an example to focus on what really matters. Each of us holds within our life experiences a list of issues that we could most definitely take offense to. Many of us as women have possibly experienced some version of sexism or another. My family gets to deal with death threats to "all pigs" or even specifically to my husband's organization, men he works with, or himself. Possibly, many of us have experienced times of being "lumped in" to a group of people, a thought process, or a media-driven rhetoric that in no way reflects our heart. On a grander, and maybe much more meaningful scale, we can step outside the confines of our western culture and see that Christians are being slaughtered, children are being sold into slavery, people are starving and dying at the hands of corrupt governments. The truth is that many of us get so caught up in all the ways that we're being wronged, all the reasons why we should be offended, that we allow our personal victimization to be the foothold Satan needs to start building walls and burning bridges. He knows that the forces of God's Holy People joined together in the name of Jesus is powerful. He knows that the more he can divide us over offenses that are "only ours," the weaker we become and all the more opportunity he has for control. I urge you all to read and hear with open hearts and open ears. Sometimes we get so caught up in being victims, that we forget that the whole world is covered in sin nature and the only solution to that is Jesus. Our offenses are not only ours. As Christians this constant divide from many due to self-centered victimization has to end. It's unacceptable, ungodly, and a true undermining of the work Jesus has appointed us to. Our true and only offense should be that Satan continues to think that he can some how win. It's time to turn away from our patterns of self-pity and fight together to point the world toward its only solution: Jesus. |
